This year, the best newspapers in Europe come from Norway, Denmark, Switzerland and Germany. All in all, 226 newspapers from 27 countries took part in the 12+1 European Newspaper Award (eleventh award 241 newspapers, twelfth 219).

Since there are great differences between local newspapers, regional newspapers, national newspapers and weeklies, the principal prizes are awarded in four categories. The following is granted for exemplary design and concept with the European Newspaper Award 12+1: local newspaper, Hordaland, Norway, regional newspaper, Berliner Morgenpost, Germany, national newspaper, Berlingske, Denmark and weekly, NZZ am Sonntag, Switzerland. Best of Scandinavia 2011

The quality of printed news design in Scandinavia really stepped up in 2010 compared to 2009. Unfortunately the opposite was the case for digital media. Here the presentation was put aside on behalf on the content.

That is the overall conclusion from the Best of Scandinavian News Design competition, writes www.snds.org. The high quality on print resulted in a record amount of prices in this category – 93 in total. 52 media houses entered the printed design competition. In total there were 615 printed entries. 23 media houses entered the online media design competition with 62 entries. There were given 22 awards in the online category. Tartu Postimees has won awards

Tartu Postimees (Estonia) won yet again awards from the 12th European Newspaper Award. The both awards paper got for the inside pages.

The best in Europe

This year the European newspapers of the year come from Portugal, Norway, Denmark and Scotland. A total of 219 newspapers from 27 countries participated in the 12th European Newspaper Award.

Due to the great differences in local newspapers, regional newspapers, national newspapers and weeklies, the main prizes are awarded in four categories. The following received awards at the 12th European Newspaper Award for best design and concept: local newspaper – Diário de Notícias da Madeira, Portugal, regional newspaper – Bergens Tidende, Norway, nationwide newspaper – Politiken, Kopenhagen, Denmark, weekly newspaper – Sunday Herald, Glasgow, Scotland. Best of Scandinavian News Design

Scandinavia’s best news design was announced at the annual SNDS seminar in Oslo.

None of this year nearly 800 entries submitted in a variety of categories received the international jury to award gold.

Silver Diploma award went to Helsingin Sanomat and Ilta-Sanomat/Veikkaaja, the Norwegian Trönder Avisa and Dagens Næringsliv, Swedish Sydsvenskan and Danish Politiken, who scored twice time silver. The year’s Best of Show was a sports section from Ilta-Sanomat/Veikkaaja.

Svenska Dagbladet won the Best of Show

The online edition of the Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet (svd.se) won the Peter Sullivan Award / Best of Show during the 18th Malofiej International Infographics Awards.

The international jury decided to award unanimously with the Best of Show the online work titled “How did Europe vote last year Eurovision Song Contest 2008″.

Tartu Postimees has won an award

Tartu Postimees (Estonia) won yet again an award from a world newspaper design contest 2009, which is held by SND (Society for News Design) for the 31st time. This time the award was given to a front page from the 1st of September 2009 (The schoolyear begin), which was edited by Elina Randoja and Vahur Kalmre, graphics by Artur Kuus.

Sweden got most of the awards, 25, in comparison with other countries nearby (Svenska Dagbladet 8, Dagens Nyheter 4). 16 awards went to Denmark (all Politiken), Finland came out with 6 and Norway 2 awards (Bergens Tidende). Among other countries close to Estonia, one prize went to Russia (Moscow’s free weekly newspaper Moy Rayon). In the 2009 contest, the jury awarded 1101 awards.

The winners of European Newspaper Award

This year the best designed newspapers in Europe come from Sweden, Germany, Portugal and Croatia, writes in your webpage newspaper designer Norbert Küpper.  A total of 241 newspapers from 27 countries participated in the 11th European Newspaper Award. Awards of Excellence are given to 108 newspapers in 21 countries.

The awards for best design and concept got in category local newspaper Smålandsposten, Sweden, in category regional newspaper Stuttgarter Zeitung, Germany, in category nationwide newspaper I informação, Portugal. Judges’ Special Recognition got newspaper 24sata, Croatia.

Estonian newspapers got three awards in this contest, all for the front pages. These newspapers are Postimees, Tartu Postimees and Äripäev.

Publico got the yellow pencil

This year they gave the yellow pencil award among the D&AD awards to the portuguese newspaper – Publico. In the category of magazine and newspaper design. New York Magazine received three awards in the same category.

 

This year they didn’t give out the black pencil award, which is more prestige. In 2006 the new design of The Guardian received the black pencil award.

Best designed newspapers in Russia

The papers with the «Best newspaper design» in Russia 2008 are the Moscow newspaper Aktzia and Svobodny Kurs (Barnaul). These newspapers got a silver award in the sixth edition of the Russian newsdesign award.

 

The winners were chosen from a field of 48 newspapers representing different regions of Russia, Ukraine, Byelorussia, Kazakhstan.

 

The seven competition categories awarded four gold medals, 11 silver, 16 bronze, 23 awards of excellence. The gold medal were awarded to Aktzia (the front pages), Delovoy Peterburg (infographics), Delovaya Gazeta Jug (photography) and Svobodny Kurs (photography).
